Quality family time doesn’t happen often enough, what with our work commitments and the kids’ after-school programmes or sports activities keeping us busy.
So, how about, when you do get the time, you spend it together having an “out-of-this-world” experience at the newly upgraded and reopened Omni-Theatre at the Science Centre Singapore. The Omni-Theatre has, now been digitally enhanced with the world’s latest and brightest 8K digital fulldome system (which complements the existing IMAX 70mm projection system) — which means that you and your kids can actually transcend physical boundaries and travel virtually to remote locations on Earth and in space.
Of course, the kids will love the immersive experience (and so will you). But they will also be able to to learn more about astronomy, space science and exploration from the comfort of their seats.
In addition to watching the IMAX movies, you can choose to watch a digital fulldome movie or a fulldome ‘live’ show. The live shows take the audience on a real-time voyage into space, where the SCS science educators have full control over what they want to show and where they want to bring the audience, and at the same time teach them about space science and exploration.
The digital fulsome movies provide an immersive viewing experience like never before.
Back to the Moon For Good
This fulldome digital movie production is a new offering at the Omni-Theatre. Immerse yourself in a race to the Moon 40 years after the historic Apollo landings. A space thriller, if you will, the movie chronicles teams around the world competing for the largest international incentivised prize in history. To win they must land a robotic spacecraft on the Moon, navigate 500 metres over the lunar surface, and send video, images and data back to Earth.

Fulldome Live Shows
The ‘live’ shows at Omni-Theatre are conducted by SCS Science Educators who will take you on a real time space voyage, allowing you to see the world beyond Earth in a never before seen way. You can choose from three shows:
Cosmic Surfing
Start with Earth and go on a journey to the edge of the Universe — faster than the speed of lightening. Find out how very very small our little blue dot is when compared with everything that is ‘out there’. And while you are our space exploring, also catch a glimpse of the future on the moon.
Running time: approx. 30 minutes
What’s Up there
Everyone is fascinated by the night sky – with so many twinkling stars. This show takes you on a spectacular tour of the current night sky, with the Science Educators pointing out the stunning constellations and the stories behind them.
Running time: approx. 30 minutes
Go on a journey to the edge of the universe with the science educators
Exploring the Planets
Get up close with the planets and find out what lies lies below the clouds of Venus? or What does it look like to stand on Mars? or What makes up the beautiful rings of Saturn?
Running time: approx. 30 minutes
IMAX movies for animal lovers
If you are not entirely a space fan, don’t worry. The IMAX movies will take you into a whole different world — that of animals. Take your pick from 2 amazing family films:
Pandas: The Journey Home
Journey to the Wolong Panda Center in China and marvel at the extraordinary efforts of the Chinese to secure the panda’s future in the wild. Watch as the filmmakers follow the pandas as they are released into the wild, after being bred in captivity — learn about how the pandas get ready for their new lives in various parts of the world. These amazing creatures will also manage to get a few chuckles out of you.
Animalopolis
Want to laugh, chuckle and giggle along with the whole family? Then there’s no better movie to catch that will help you do exactly this than “Animapolis”! Animalopolis will take you on a voyage into the magical world of animals. Go nose to nose with hippos as they munch some lunch, turn somersaults with sea lions and dance along with bears, while being reminded of the humour and wonder that nature gives us every day, everywhere.
