Bring your child to watch a live orchestra performance like the SSO’s Carnival of the Animals!
In this digital age, a lot of children will get their dose of entertainment by watching cartoons on television or on a mobile device.
Experts agree that such media has a very big influence on young minds and most of the time it is negative, which may lead to aggressive or antisocial behaviour and also cause sleep disturbances.
Although it may be a little tough to completely avoid exposing your kids to screen time, it is not impossible and you can encourage him to engage in more positive forms of entertainment — like by bringing him to attend an orchestra performance specially tailored for children.
There are many benefits to listening to classical music such as helping to boost your little one’s intellectual performance, raising his IQ, clarifying thinking, and it also provides a calming effect by releasing dopamine (the “feel-good hormone”) which reduces stress and can even help put your child in a pleasant mood.
The Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) offers unique Concerts for Children which uses elements of theatre, mime, dance and puppetry to give your little ones a truly memorable experience!

The SSO presents Carnival of the Animals, also known as Le Carnival des Animaux
Carnival of the Animals
Bring your kids to discover the marvellous universe of the Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns with Octave and Mandoline, as the enchanting music guides you through a magical world where lions, kangaroos, turtles and other animals come to life through the delightful use of small and large marionettes!
This humourous musical suite includes 14 movements that each represent a different animal, including a grand Royal March of the Lion, a fun pecking theme of Hens and Roosters, a waltz-like melody for The Elephant, a hopping tempo for the Kangaroos, soft chords for The Cuckoo in the Depths of the Woods, a romantic cello solo for The Swan, and many more!
Classical music lovers may also recognise familiar sounds from Offenbach’s operetta, Orpheus in the Underworld; the aria from Rossini’s The Barber of Seville; Felix Mendelssohn’s incidental music to A Midsummer Night’s Dream; the popular French song, Partan pour la Syrie; and Saint-Saëns’ very own original composition, Danse Macabre.
Featuring Associate Conductor, Joshua Tan; L’Arsenal à Musique; Low Shao Suan and Low Shao Ying on pianos, this unique concert for children will be sure to entertain and delight the young ones as they are introduced to the wonderful world of live orchestra music!
